401k Program – Employees can participate in the tax-deferred American Red Cross 401k savings plan. Pension Plan - A defined benefit retirement plan is provided through the American Red Cross for all full-time, part-time, per diem, temporary or regular employees. After a total of five years employment, employees are fully vested (entitled to a pension benefit upon reaching retirement at age 65.)

Flexible Spending Account - The New York-Penn Region offers a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) in accordance with the Internal Revenue Service and federal regulations to full-time paid staff members and to part-time paid staff members who work at least 20 base budgeted hours per week. The plan allows eligible employees to pay their share of health and dental premiums, dependent care expenses, and non-reimbursed medical expenses on a pre-tax basis, thereby reducing gross taxable income, resulting in a net decrease in payment of Federal and State tax and FICA contributions.

Clara Barton Federal Credit Union – Full-and part-time employees may enroll upon employment. The credit union offers various services, including savings accounts and low interest loans.

Time Off

Paid Time Off (PTO) - It is the policy of the New York-Penn Region to provide paid time off (PTO) to regular full- and part-time employees hired to work a minimum of 20 hours per week. PTO consists of an allotment of paid time off which is made available to employees at the beginning of the calendar year, but is earned during the course of that same year. Employees with less than one year of service must accumulate PTO before it may be used. The maximum accrual during the first year of employment is 20 days.

Holidays - The New York-Region observes six paid holidays per calendar year: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. Regular full-time and regular part-time paid staff members who work at least 20 base budgeted hours per week are eligible for paid holidays.

Jury Duty - The Region will compensate employees at their regular rate of pay and with no loss of benefits when they are summoned to jury duty.

Military Pay – the New York-Penn Region grants leave status to employees who are absent from work because of military training or active service. In addition to the benefits required by the law, the Region supplements military pay, if necessary, so that the paid staff member will receive full pay for up to 17 days of military service in any calendar year.

Bereavement Leave - Region employees may be granted up to three normally scheduled days of paid leave when death of an immediate family member occurs. Immediate family member is defined as parents, father-in-law, mother-in-law, siblings, spouse or domestic partner, child, stepchild, stepparent, grandchild, and grandparents.
