When you donate for the first time, The American Red Cross will determine your Platelet Count (how many platelets you have in your body). Everyone has a different count! Depending on certain criteria, we will be able to tell you if you are able to give more than one patient dose of platelets at a time.

We will also be able to determine your Hematocrit percentage (how much iron you have in your body the day of your donation). This percentage may fluctuate.

Based on your specific blood type, your individual platelet counts, and Hematocrit levels, here are your recommended donation options:
