Kay Schwartz

Kay Schwartz
Chief Executive Officer

Kay Schwartz was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the American Red Cross Blood Services, New York-Penn Region in January 2005. She has had a 15-year career with the Red Cross and had most recently been serving as Chief Operating Officer of the New York-Penn Region. Prior to being appointed COO, Kay was the Region’s Quality Director/Quality Assurance Officer.

She is a graduate of the Fredonia State University with a Bachelors of Science in Biology and completed an internship in Medical Technology at the W.C.A. Hospital School of Medical Technology, Jamestown, New York where she received Evelyn V. Gustavson Award for the Outstanding Medical Technology Student.

Schwartz is a Certified Quality Auditor (ASQ), AABB Assessor and a member of the Blood Banks Association of New York State, AABB, American Society of Clinical Pathologists and American Society of Quality.


John Burch, M.D.

John Burch, M.D.
Chief Medical Officer

Dr. John Burch is currently the chief medical officer, American Red Cross Blood Services, Northeast Division. He received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School, and completed a fellowship in hematology and oncology at the Washington University School of Medicine. He currently holds an academic appointment of Clinical Associate Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine with the University of Rochester School of Medicine. He is Board certified by the Blood Banking Subspecialty of American Board of Pathology and the American Board of Internal Medicine.
