About Us

Dear Friend,

Welcome to the New York-Penn Region. We are one of the three largest regions in the American Red Cross Biomedical Services system, providing blood products to approximately 101 hospitals throughout upstate New York.

Kay Schwartz, Chief Executive Officer The New York-Penn Region was formed in July of 1994 from the consolidation of three Upstate New York Blood Services Regions. Prior to the consolidation, Red Cross Blood Services had a long and progressive history in the Region. Started as a war relief effort to provide lifesaving blood for soldiers during World War II, the blood program grew to serve civilian needs after the war. In 1948, the Rochester Regional Blood Center was formed as Unit No. 1 of the American Red Cross National Blood Program.

Today, American Red Cross Blood Services collects and distributes nearly half of the nation's blood supply. We strive to provide the safest, most reliable blood products possible. Our volunteers and staff are committed to meeting the blood needs of patients near or far and proudly work under the American Red Cross name.

Thank you for taking time to visit our website. Visit the site often, and please consider donating blood or volunteering to support our lifesaving effort.

Sincerely,

Kay Schwartz
Chief Executive Officer
